In line with Wartburg Seminary's commitment that theological education include both global and cross-cultural foci, students and faculty fan-out across the globe during January to experience and read contexts other than their own, to build relationships, and to broaden their own theological and global horizons.
From January 2008, Wartburg faculty and students have been graciously welcomed by many friends in Iceland for a two week cross-cultural immersion. The immersions happen biennially. Dr. Giere coordinates the immersion on the Wartburg side of the North Atlantic. The Rev. Gunnar Sigurjónsson, senior pastor of Digraneskirkja, Kópavagur, Iceland, coordinates the immersion in Iceland. The Immersion during J-term 2016 will also include time in Norway, in both urban and rural parishes.
During the immersion, students are required to blog their experience. Please feel free to follow their reflections on the blog, "Seminarians in Iceland," which includes archived reflections starting in 2010.
